Winner of American Idol Season 21: Iam Tongi (real name William "Iam" Guy Tongi) rose to fame after winning the 21st season of American Idol in 2023.

Background: Iam is originally from Kahuku, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. His family later relocated to Federal Way, Washington, where he attended high school. He is of Tongan, Samoan and Irish descent.

Musical Background: Iam learned to play the ukulele in fifth grade and has gone on to sing and play guitar.

American Idol Journey: Iam impressed the judges with his emotional performances and unique voice. Some sources mention he was the first person from Hawaii, the first Pacific Islander, and the first non-country singer in three years to win the competition.
