Beginner Guitarists:

  • Modulation: Whenever a key change (modulation) occurs, chords before the key change may be very easy to play, but after the key change, they can be quite difficult to play, as is the case here.
  • A much easier key would be C Major modulating to D Major with a whole new set of chords that keep the song well within reach for beginners. Make sure you press 'C' on the Transposer, and if playing along with the video - capo on the 4th fret.
  • Chords in C Major: C, Dm, Em, F, G7
  • Chords in D Major: D, Em, F#m, G, A7, Bm
  • All very easy guitar chords except for F#m which may be problematic for anyone unable to play barre chords.
  • We have a particular voicing for F#m that requires a small barre, but most beginners will find this very easy to play:

    RH/LH Charts:
    F#m F#m-LH
  • This chord shape is extremely useful for beginners, and because all top 4 strings are covered, you can retain the same shape and play different minor chords by simply moving up and down the fretboard. This is the fundamental principal behind barre chords, and this chord is a great pre-requisite to learning them.
  • You can interchange F#m with F#m7, especially if you find F#m to be a bit of a stretch. This is even easier to play, and the same principles apply. Moving the same shape up 1 fret, makes the chord 1 semitone or half-tone higher, e.g., F#m7 (+1) = G#m7(+1) = Am7 etc.

    F#m7 F#m7-LH
  • And just in case you are unsure of Bm:

    Bm Bm-LH
