D/G can be played several different ways. For people with a wide hand-span the open chord version works well, but if you find this a little difficult, the mini-barre version may be easier to play.
Em11: If you are playing Bm7 as a barre chord, it is much easier to play Em11 by retaining the barre on the first 5 strings and playing a mini-barre with the second finger on the 1st and 2nd string - 3rd fret. This has no effect on the chord as the first 2 strings are covered by the mini-barre... an easier way to transition from Bm7 to Em11.
The song has the same 4-chord turnaround throughout the entire song. If you are a beginner, make sure you can play all 4 chords with ease as the changes are quite rapid especially between Bm7 and Em11.
Bm7 barre chord: The transition from Bm7 to Em11 is very smooth. Both chords barre the second fret with only a slight change to the second finger from one chord to the next.
Bm7 open chord: If you haven't learned barre chords, there is another voicing for Em11 which will make the transition from Bm7 very easy, with a simple movement of the pinkie. πͺπΆ
Em11: πΈ Frets Notes Fingers e|---3--- β G 4th B|--(3)-- β D (4th) optional G|---2--- β A 3rd D|---0--- β D A|---2--- β B 2nd E|---0--- β E
The optional note means you can play it if you prefer or play the string open.
Beginners: If you find D/G and Em11 too hard to play, you can replace these with D and Em which means you can play the entire song using 3 easy open chordsβD, Em and Bm7.
Think of the open-chord version of Bm7 as a B7 chord without the first finger on the 4th string which is played open. π₯³
